Kadalkin Speaking

darkericdraven:

I feel bad for thinking some people in the community really are just crazy. Not anyone I know or any of you, my followers, of course.

Some of us really are just crazy.

That doesn’t mean we deserve any less respect than those who are not crazy.

- Nines

Would it make sense to say that I am not an otherkin but I am part of the otherkin community?

(The word just feels more related to the community to me rather than something I’d actually call myself. I like nonhuman for a personal descriptor.)

- Nines

So do I or do I not shell out the $20+ for Lupa’s otherkin book?

kadalkin:

(buying it used on Amazon if I do, like how I get nearly all my books)

Any commentary about its helpfulness/informativeness/easy of readability (?)/etc. is welcomed!

- Nines

Welp I decided to go for it. Best of luck to me.

- Nines

Us. I want to read it too. - Mor

LET’S GET SOME DISCUSSION UP IN HERE.

HOW DID YOU FIGURE OUT YOUR KINTYPE? DID YOU JUST RESEARCH IT AND IT CLICKED, LIKE ME? DID A CERTAIN EVENT CHANGE YOUR LIFE? I WANNA KNOW.

I just felt a huge mental/physical shift one day and was just like

wtf is this shit.

I searched my mind to try to figure out what the hell I was and then…

“Badgermole. I am a fucking BADGERMOLE whyyyyyyyy”

I mean I haven’t *really* figured it out yet, but there are certain things that point towards what I’m thinking, I suppose.

Like whenever I read stuff about fairies/faeries (especially certain kinds) or see certain pictures, my mind just clicks with it and really feels like it fits?

And sometimes when I’m acting certain ways other people (often Mor) comment about it and say I’m acting fae or acting like a faery or “acting like [character/person]” where character/person is someone who’s a faery of some type.

(I guess I could go into stuff that happened as a kid but 1. people [usually nonkin but some kin as well] tend to discount that as “just normal kid fantasies” and 2. I don’t actually remember a vast portion of my childhood anyway so it’s just some random stuff and nothing necessarily consistent.)

(And there’s some supernatural-y stuff as well but for similar reasons I’ll hush about that for right now.)

When did /cis fictives/ and /cis multiples/ start conflating their situation with trans people?

a-handful:

Because I have seriously missed it but there’s some pissy, apparently cis prat whining about how they’re doing so.

I actually haven’t seen any fictive, especially not cis ones, associate being fictive and being trans.

[cut because I just want to talk about this above part here]

I likewise have not seen this happening, although in some specific cases I could understand it a little, those cases being:

  • when a headmate who is cis but has a different gender than the one the body they live in was assigned talks about how it feels to be in a body whose assigned gender doesn’t match their own
  • …actually yeah that’s basically the only one I can see

I have seen a couple of cases of cis beings talking about how weird it is to be in a body that doesn’t match what they’re used to, but the times I’ve seen it they did make a point of noting that they were cis and that what they were discussing wasn’t like trans people’s issues.

My unpopular opinion:

Some of my non-kin friends joke around with me that they’re, say, cats or cows or whatever animal or creature they can think of inside. I don’t take it as an insult, mainly because I think everyone has some sort of creature inside them. Only some (therians, kin, etc.) know how to let it out.

I don’t see an issue with non-kin making comments or jokes about being nonhuman animals or beings as long as they’re not being mocking asses about it?

Partly this is because calling myself nonhuman things in a not-serious-about-being-‘kin way  helped me to feel more comfortable about exploring my actually being nonhuman - so I think it’s possible that some of the people that do this may actually feel nonhuman and maybe not realize it or maybe feel uncomfortable admitting it (to themselves or to others), and there’s nothing wrong with coping with this by means of (nonharmful/nonmocking) jokes.

This “otherkin” thing worries me. I feel that by using the same logic that the trans*gender community uses, its only going to further discredit the trans*community in the eyes of non-trans* and non-otherkin* folk. The last thing the trans community needs.

…I don’t know what you mean about “the same logic” but uh.

I’m trans*

And otherkin.

Soooo.

And quite frankly, I don’t give a fuck how me comparing my two experiences makes the communitie look. I’m not here to cater to cisfolks and human-identified folks.

I feel, OP, that this is represents more of a problem in the cis human community than one in the otherkin community.

This idea that people have, that otherkin/nonhumans are all “trying to co-opt oppression,” etc. only actually makes any sense if an overwhelming majority of otherkin are straight, white, and cis.

Which… at least the ones on Tumblr are not.

I recall a survey that stogucheme passed around earlier…

Yes, but when it comes to oppression, there have to be two questions:

1. How is this adversely affecting my life?

2. How is society telling them that I deserve bad things to happen to me?

And otherkin, I have to say, do not and should not have any special rights. It’s a form of schizotypy, and a person would do much better if they could see that group support for those sorts of mental problems is so much more than fandom-saturated pretendy-play on Tumblr.

That doesn’t…actually seem to have anything to do with what I posted, sorry to say.
